Driving a hire car in Member States of the European Union (EU)
Are you hiring a car in a Member State of the EU, such as the Netherlands? Then you can go wherever you want within the EU with that car. If you travel between an EU Member State and a country outside the EU, certain conditions apply.

Contact the car hire company when you leave the EU
Conditions for travelling with a hire car apply in the following situations:
- you hire a car in the EU and travel to a country outside the EU;
- you hire a car outside the EU and travel to an EU Member State.
Notify the car hire company if you want to leave the EU, or if you want to enter the EU. The car hire company can then explain the conditions to you.
