Are you doing a programme or internship outside the Netherlands? If so, you can apply for a public transport allowance instead of the studentenreisproduct (student travel product). This is because you cannot use your student travel product outside the Netherlands.

You must meet certain conditions to receive a public transport allowance. The Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs – DUO (education implementation service) website gives all of the conditions for the public transport allowance for studying outside the Netherlands. Whether you qualify for student finance depends on your age, the course you are enroled in, where you hold citizenship and your residency status.

Request the public transport allowance for studying outside the Netherlands

You may request the public transport allowance from DUO. You must also cancel your current student travel product. This is only possible in the Netherlands, so make sure you have done this before travelling abroad.
