Applying for a bridging benefit (OBR) to compensate for the state pension (AOW) gap after the state retirement age has been raised
If you temporarily have less income due to an increase in the state pension age, for example if your early retirement pension stops or decreases before your state pension (AOW) starts, you may be eligible for a bridging benefit (OBR). The bridging benefit supplements your income.
Eligibility for OBR
To be eligible for a bridging benefit, you must meet certain conditions. For example, your income and assets must be below a certain level. The website of the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) has a calculator to calculate your eligibility for OBR.
Duration of OBR
The bridging scheme is a temporary scheme, which ends on 31 December 2024.
Applying for OBR
You will usually automatically receive a letter from the SVB to apply for a bridging benefit. You will receive the letter four months before you turn 65. The letter will explain how to apply for a bridging benefit.
If you have not received a letter but you think that you are eligible, then click on this link to see if you are eligible for a bridging benefit. If you meet all the requirements, you will get a link which you can use to apply.
