How do I have a spelling mistake on a birth certificate corrected?
You can have a spelling or typing error on a birth certificate corrected by the Registrar of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Registered Partnerships. Ask your municipality what the costs and conditions are.
Incorrect name on a birth certificate
Sometimes an incorrect name on a birth certificate isn’t caused by a spelling or typing mistake. The person registering the birth may have provided the wrong given name, for example. You can also have this corrected by the Registrar of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Registered Partnerships.
Changing your surname or given name
You can only change your surname under strict conditions. You should send your application to the Integrity and Screening Agency (Justis).
If you want to change your given name you will have to apply to a court.
