I can’t log in with my European eID. What can I do?
A European eID can be used to access and use the online services of public service providers in countries within the European Economic Area. There can be a number of reasons why you can’t log in. The following tips should help you resolve most problems and errors.
Can’t log in? Try these tips:
- Use a different (standard) browser
Logging in with European eID works better in some browsers than in others. Try a different browser. - Close all open internet pages
Open the browser again and try to log in. - Change your internet connection
Switch from WiFi to 4G/5G, or from 4G/5G to WiFi. - Clear cookies and browser history
Go to your browser settings to clear cookies and browser history. - Use incognito mode
Try logging in with your European eID with the browser in incognito mode. - Log in more quickly
When logging in with your European eID, try filling everything in as quickly as possible.
Having problems with your eID?
- If you’re trying to log in to the website of a Dutch public service provider using a recognised form of eID from another European country (for example, itsme from Belgium), contact the helpdesk for that specific eID.
- If you are trying to log in to the website of a public service provider in another member state with your DigiD or eHerkenning, contact the DigiD helpdesk or the eHerkenning helpdesk.
Error message when entering your BSN
If you get an error message when you enter your citizen service number (BSN), report the problem by email to info@rvig.nl.
Still can’t log in?
If you’ve followed all these tips and still can’t log in, email eidas@logius.nl with the following information:
- The recognised form of European eID you are using (this may also be DigiD or eHerkenning).
- The service provider whose website you are trying to log in to, including the URL.
- Screenshots of each step you have taken trying to log in. Please send these as attachments. Start with the service provider’s initial selection screen and end with the screen showing the error message. Make sure that the URL is clearly visible in the screenshots.
- Describe at exactly which point when trying to log in you saw the error message, including the exact time.
