Entrepreneurs from abroad (start-ups)
On 1 January 2015 a new scheme was introduced for ambitious entrepreneurs (start-ups) from outside the European Union (EU). As an entrepreneur, you can apply for a one-year residence permit to start an innovative business in the Netherlands. One condition is that you receive support from an experienced, reliable mentor (facilitator) in the Netherlands.
One year
You have one year in which to develop an innovative product or service. The facilitator provides guidance on turning the concept into a business. After one year you can extend your residence permit in accordance with the scheme for self-employed foreign nationals.
