Pass a pre-employment medical assessment
When applying for certain jobs, you will have to pass a medical examination. If you have to meet special medical requirements for a job, this examination is mandatory. For example, if you are applying for a job as a train driver, you must pass a colour-blindness test.

Medical examination rules
If the job description indicates that a medical examination is mandatory, once you pass the application process and the employer wants to hire you, you will undergo a medical examination. A registered occupational physician will carry out the medical examination and inform you of the results. They will also inform the employer of whether you are suitable for the job.
Voluntary medical examination
If you are already employed and work, for example, with dangerous substances, your employer must offer you a preventief medisch onderzoek – PMO (recurrent medical check-up). The goal is to minimise the health risks for you.
The employer may take measures to protect or improve their workers’ health. The PMO is voluntary for you as an employee; it is up to you to decide whether you wish to have it. If you accept this check-up, your employer will not receive the results of the examination.
