Coordinating counterterrorism efforts
The National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) coordinates counterterrorism efforts in the Netherlands. The Public Prosecution Service is in charge of overseeing criminal investigations of suspected terrorists.
The NCTV coordinates counterterrorism efforts
The NCTV draws up terrorist threat assessments. In addition, it works together with many organisations in order to prevent and combat terrorism, for example the police, municipalities, ministries and businesses. It also works with other government agencies and such international organisations as the European Union, NATO and the United Nations.
The NCTV also decides on security measures for airports, members of the Royal House, certain politicians and international institutions. For example, Schiphol Airport must follow certain procedures when checking passengers and their luggage.
The Public Prosecution Service brings terrorists before the courts
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) heads the police investigations of terrorists. Prosecutors bring charges against suspects and must prove their guilt in court. Ultimately, it is the court that decides whether a defendant is actually guilty.
