Reporting the modification of a self-built aircraft
Do you own a self-built aircraft? Do you want to make changes to it? Then you need to report those changes to the Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport – ILT (Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate).

Different types of self-built aircraft
There are different types of self-built aircraft (amateur aircraft):
- fixed-wing aircraft;
- helicopters;
- gyrocopters;
- gliders and powered gliders;
- hot-air balloons;
- microlight aeroplanes (MLAs);
- powered paragliders.
This can be by own design or a construction kit.
Reporting requirement for modification of amateur-built aircraft
The modifications listed below must be reported, as they affect the data registered in the luchtvaartuigregister (dutch civil aircraft register (in Dutch)). These modifications are:
- the maximum take-off weight of the aircraft;
- the maximum landing weight of the aircraft;
- the model designation of the aircraft;
- the type or model of the engine;
- the type or model of the propeller.
