Reporting the modification of a self-built aircraft

Do you own a self-built aircraft? Do you want to make changes to it? Then you need to report those changes to the Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport – ILT (Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate).

Different types of self-built aircraft

There are different types of self-built aircraft (amateur aircraft):

  • fixed-wing aircraft;
  • helicopters;
  • gyrocopters;
  • gliders and powered gliders;
  • hot-air balloons;
  • microlight aeroplanes (MLAs);
  • powered paragliders.

This can be by own design or a construction kit.

Reporting requirement for modification of amateur-built aircraft

The modifications listed below must be reported, as they affect the data registered in the luchtvaartuigregister (dutch civil aircraft register (in Dutch)). These modifications are:

  • the maximum take-off weight of the aircraft;
  • the maximum landing weight of the aircraft;
  • the model designation of the aircraft;
  • the type or model of the engine;
  • the type or model of the propeller.
