More and more people are working together to devise social solutions to problems at neighbourhood, municipal or national level. These are private initiatives without commercial or government involvement. Local residents often work together in neighbourhood enterprises, set up local energy companies, maintain public spaces or set up care cooperatives. The government encourages and supports civil society initiatives and social enterprise of this kind, for example by abolishing cumbersome rules and regulations.
