Developing a good spatial plan for the Netherlands may well be the most significant challenge of this time. Space is scarce – whether it’s for homes, work, food production or recreation – and we will need to make better use of it. The housing shortage is one of the most pressing problems right now. Young people are delaying starting a family because they can’t find a suitable home. That’s why I’m committed to ensuring we build enough affordable homes for rent and for sale, for both younger and older people. But it’s also about giving people scope for doing business, or for enjoying the natural environment. In short, there’s no time to lose and a lot of key decisions to make.
