IOB – Good things come to those who make them happen – Return on aid for Dutch exports
IOB commissioned a study on the impact of Dutch bilateral development cooperation on Dutch exports.
Since 2000, the share of developing and emerging countries in Dutch exports has increased from less than 5% in 2000 to almost 11% in 2012. This study shows that aid has contributed to the growth. Each euro of Dutch bilateral aid produces 0.70–0.90 euro return in terms of increased exports, leading to a value added for the Dutch economy of about 0.40–0.55 euro for each euro spent. This corresponds to total exports of about 1.5 billion euro, a value added of 900 million euro and 15,000 jobs.
