I work for an international organisation, but its social security scheme does not apply to me. How will this affect me?
You live in the Netherlands and work for an international organisation like NATO or the International Criminal Court. Your employer’s social security scheme states that it does not apply to you. In that case you fall under the Dutch social security system.
The Dutch social security system
If you fall under the Dutch social security system, the normal rules for social security apply.
The conditions for insurance are different for each scheme. Ask the benefits agency (the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) or the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV)) what conditions apply.
Going to live or work abroad at a later date
If you go to work abroad again at a later date, you should be aware that not all benefits can be paid outside the Netherlands.
- The Social Insurance Bank (SVB) can tell you whether a state old age pension (AOW) or surviving dependants benefit (ANW) can be paid to you abroad.
- You can ask the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) about payment abroad of unemployment benefit (WW), sickness benefit or benefit under the Work and Income (Capacity for Work) Act (WIA).
