Statement on Recent Developments in Iraq

The Netherlands condemns the attacks by armed groups in recent weeks against the Global Coalition against ISIS in Iraq. Coalition partners act in Iraq at the request of the Iraqi government and in support of Iraqi security forces. We call on the Iraqi government to ensure the security of military bases. Recent attacks on diplomatic missions, including on the US Embassy in Bagdad on 31 December, are unacceptable. The Iraqi government should protect all diplomatic missions. All parties in the region, including Iran, should commit to the stability and security of Iraq.
